COIMBATORE: A large number of AIADMK cadres led by former minister S P Velumani on Friday staged a protest against the power tariff hike.
The searches conducted in his house as well as that of his former cabinet colleague C Vijayabaskar were a ploy of the state government to divert attention from the tariff hike, Velumani said. “However, people will not get carried away by such tactics as the tariff hike has come as a severe blow to the public.”
Increased expenditure on electricity will cripple the industrial sector in Coimbatore, which is barely emerging from the Covid impact, the AIADMK leader said. “There is widespread anger against the DMK government and the party will reap the results in the next assembly election. People of Kongu region had rejected DMK in the last election itself and people in the rest of the state will teach a lesson to DMK in the next election.”
Former assembly speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman led a protest in Tirupur.
