BALLARI: Two patients, admitted in the ICU of Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), died following a suspected power cut in the hospital on Wednesday. The generator, too, was reportedly defunct. The deceased are Moula Husain and Chittemma.
However, VIMS director Dr T Gangadhara Gouda said that one of the deceased patients had multi-organ failure, while the other person died after he was bitten by a snake. Their deaths were natural, power shutdown was just a coincidence,” Dr Gouda added. Relatives of the patients alleged that there was a power shutdown between 6am and 10pm.
“As generators were defunct, ventilators switched off and that led to death of the two patients,” they claimed. Sources in VIMS asserted that the shutdown was between 8.20am and 10am. Commissioner Pavan Kumar Malpati said : “The issue with generators was discussed in the meeting.”
