A 40-year-old man walked into a police station in South Africa to apply for a job in the police force, but got arrested, after it was found that he was a wanted criminal. His arrest has got funny reactions from people and many have now dubbed him as ‘South Africa’s dumbest criminal’.

A man named Thomas Ngcobo had been on the run since 2015 after he started stealing hardware products while he was working as a delivery man.

According to local media reports, Ngcobo used to divert deliveries to different addresses without taking the permission of owners. His modus operandi soon got the attention of his manager after a few invoices were shown missing in records. Soon a complaint was filed against Ngcobo, who managed to outsmart the police and had been on a run since then. His name was added to the list of wanted criminals in the police records.

Ngcobo had no inkling that his desire to join the police force would actually land him behind bars. Brigadier Selvy Mohlala and his colleagues at the local police station were baffled by Thomas Ngcobo’s visit, local media reports quoted Mpumalanga police spokesperson as saying. Interestingly, Ngcobo walked into the police station to file a complaint that he didn't hear from them or receive any reply to his application, which eventually sealed his fate.

The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela further told the local media, "We are working tirelessly day and night, sticking to our mandate of creating a safe environment for all citizens. We cannot achieve that stage while other suspects are still roaming the streets and terrorising communities. It is just a matter of time before we bring them to justice."
