Margao: Margao MLA Digambar Kamat’s switch to BJP has turned political equations in the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) topsy turvy. With the elections for the new chairperson to be held on Friday, the altered political math has put a big question mark over the continuity or otherwise of the civic alliance forged between the panels propped by Kamat and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai.
On Thursday, Kamat’s blue-eyed boy, Damodar Shirodkar, filed his nomination papers for the post of chairperson. Independent Ghanashyam Shirodkar, too, has filed his nomination papers whose candidature has interestingly been seconded by BJP-affiliated councillors – Camilo Barreto, Mahesh Amonkar and Sunita Paradkar. As per the terms of alliance between the coalition partners, it’s the Kamat-panel’s turn to have its councillor nominated for the post.
