Punjab: Woman, lover held for killing husband

LUDHIANA: Machhiwara police have arrested a woman and her alleged lover for the murder of her husband. The accused were identified as Parminder Ram and Mamata of Garhi Bet. Police officials said Jasveer Singh (35) of Garhi Bet village was strangled by his cousin Parminder Ram as he developed illicit relationship with his wife when the former worked in Dubai for years.
Cops said Jasveer had returned to his village just a few days ago and started to suspect his wife of cheating on him. They said Parminder and Mamata made a plan to kill Jasveer Singh, considering him as an obstacle in their relationship.
Police officials said Jasveer had gone to Nawanshahr for treatment of jaundice on September 10 and had alcohol with Parminder and his friend Baljinder Singh of Ratlana. Later in the day, Parminder executed his plan and strangled Jasveer to death. They said the accused then put his body in a sack and threw it into a well near Kahlon village.
Cops said when Jasveer did not return home, his father Joginder Singh filed a complaint with Machiwara police station and stated that his daughter-in-law had illicit relations with his sister's son Parminder.
They added that police team under the leadership of SHO Machhiwara, interrogated Mamata after which she confessed about her illicit relationship and the plan to murder Jasveer. Afterwards, police arrested Parminder Ram, who also admitted to his crime. Later, Jasveer's body was recovered from a well near Kahlon.
