Ludhiana: Bullet shells found in park, shooter still a mystery

LUDHIANA: Recovery of empty bullet shells at a public park triggered panic in Kidwai Nagar on Wednesday. The development assumes significance as RSS shakha is held in the park every morning.
Sources said on Tuesday night, some miscreants, believed to be criminals, had indulged in hooliganism inside Shaheed Park. On Wednesday morning, Swayamsewaks of RSS were cleaning the park before holding a shakha when they found empty cartridges.
Sources said they also found leftover cake and empty liquor bottles from the spot. Later, they informed the police. Cops from division number 3 police station and senior officers, including ACP (central), visited the spot and started a probe into the matter.
ADCP-I Rupinder Kaur Sran said empty bullet shells were recovered from the spot. They are probing the matter before registering a case, she said, adding that they are checking the CCTV footage. A technical support unit and CIA team are involved in the investigations.
The police officer said they are taking the matter seriously and will solve the mystery soon. Police sources said cops have started working on many theories into the matter. They said it can be a case of celebratory firing or may be case of exchange of fire.
Police officials said later police conducted a search operation in the park and sought help from RSS workers during the probe. Local sources said some area residents had heard loud noises in the park around midnight, but they didn't come out to see what was happening. They said some persons do camp in the park at night hours.
Police officials said the area is sensitive as there have been instances of clashes between criminals in the area in the recent years. They said a high voltage drama had been witnessed outside division number 3 police station on September 7 night after police had allegedly roughed up people protesting against detention of an alleged miscreant Raja Bajaj, who was shot at by Vishal Gill, an alleged gangster.
On January 18, 2016, two miscreants had opened fire at Naresh Kumar, the then mukhya shikshak (main teacher) of a RSS shakha at Shaheed Park in Kidwai Nagar, before the shakha was to start in the morning. Later, the motorcycle-borne miscreants had sped away on a motorcycle.
