It seems the controversy surrounding Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh’s nude photoshoot is far from over. In July, the actor’s nude photoshoot for PAPER Magazine sent the netizens into a tizzy after the images surfaced on the Internet. The images triggered a flurry of reactions across the spectrum.
Now, a report on ANI has stated that Singh has claimed one of the images from the photoshoot was morphed. The actor reportedly, in his statement to the Mumbai Police on August 29, said that the image where his private parts were allegedly visible did not belong to him.
Reportedly, it was based on this image that an FIR was registered against the actor on July 26 on charges of obscenity. The image in contention, according to Singh, was not part of the eight pictures that he had shared on his Instagram account.
Following the revelation, the police have sent the picture to the forensic science laboratory to find out if it had been morphed as claimed by the actor. If the image turns out to be morphed, Singh may reportedly get a chit in the FIR filed against him. Sources close to the investigation revealed that the pictures uploaded by Singh on his Instagram handle did not amount to the definition of obscenity.
After the images were posted on July 21, the actor was criticized and the Internet witnessed a barrage of reaction including hilarious memes. The Mumbai Police had registered an FIR against the ‘Padmaavat’ actor after an office-bearer of an NGO stated that Singh’s pictures hurt the sentiments of women.
The FIR was filed under IPC 292 (sale of obscene material, etc), 293 (sale of obscene objects to young people), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and the Information Technology Act.
The police recorded the statement of the actor on August 29. According to Hindustan Times, the actor was shown all the pictures by the police. The actor had denied sharing an image with the private parts visible.
