4 Sattari villagers trapped in river after heavy rain, rescued

The villagers were trapped in the river while returning from their plantations after heavy rain caused the water levels to rise rapidly
VALPOI: Four people from Dhave and Kudshe villages who were trapped in the Mhadei river at Sonal Tar village in Sattari on Monday were rescued by fire service officials.
The four - Kusta Gaonkar, 46, Kamal Gaonkar, 35, Aarti Thanekar, 35 and Satyawati Curcadkar, 30 - had gone to their plantations across the river on Monday. Later that evening, after finishing their work, they ventured into the river to return home. However, when crossing, it began raining heavily and within a short time the water level increased, trapping the four.
Valpoi fire station officer Santosh Gawas along with fire personnel Chandrakant Mangaonkar, Arvind Desai, Mahadev Gawade, Sandeep Gaonkar, Avinash Gaonkar, Satyawan Gawas, Ajay Gholkar and Sunil Rane rushed to the site and rescued the four using ropes and life jackets.
