BELAGAVI: Athani police have arrested a man for opening fire in the air with his licensed revolver to threaten his wife. The incident, which occurred at Athani late on Sunday night, came to light on Monday evening following a complaint by the wife in the local police station.
Police arrested the accused Shivanand Kalebag of Sindagi town in Vijayapura district. The accused had married Athani-based Preeti four years ago and the coupe has a three-year-old son.
In a complaint, Preeti stated that she has been living with her parents in Athani for the past three months, as her husband has an extra marital affair with a woman.
At 4pm on Sunday, Shivanand went to his wife’s mother’s house in Athani and asked Preeti to come and with live with him. When she refused, he showed his revolver and threatened to kill her. However, Preeti’s parents convinced him and sent him out saying they would inform the elders in the community about the issue and let him know their decision.
Later, Shivanand returned at 9pm and asked Preeti to come with him. At this time, an angry Shivanand fired two bullets in the air and said, “There are four more bullets in the revolver. Two are for you and two for me if you refused to come with me.”
Police sources said the revolver the accused used was only licenced to be use in Vijayapura district limits. Police have seized the revolver.
