Prayagraj: Authorities of Prayagraj division of North Central Railway (NCR) are mulling to introduce EMR (emergency medical room) services at important railway stations under its jurisdiction to provide emergency health facilities to passengers during ‘golden hour’, said an official. The EMR will have a doctor and support staff to provide emergency medical facilities to not only passengers but also those present on the station premises like authorized vendors, porters or the common public who visit the station for any reason.
As per the present practice, whenever a passenger needs any medical attention, the approaching station is informed and a railway doctor attends to the emergency. For this, the railway charges a nominal fee of Rs 100 from the passenger. “Now, we are preparing the proposal through which private doctors or hospitals can open EMRs at a given station and provide emergency medical services to passengers or people staying within the premises. For providing the service, the doctor can charge a nominal fee which could be equal to what the railways charge,” said public relation officer (PRO), Prayagraj division Amit Kumar Singh.
As per the proposal, the EMR facility could start from Kanpur Central station and will be extended to important stations like Prayagraj Junction, Etawah, Tundla, Aligarh etc. This is in line with the circular of Indian Railways (IR) introduced in 2018 following which EMR facilities are being provided at various Central Railway (CR) stations.
