THANE: Police in Maharashtra's Thane on Tuesday filed a chargesheet against civil engineer Anant Karmuse, against whom a cross case was registered by the NCP leader Jitendra Awhad's aide, for posting defamatory tweet against the former minister .
A case was registered against Karmuse for allegedly uploading a morphed photo of Awhad on social media platforms in 2020.

Subsequently, the Vartak Nagar police had registered a case against Karmuse under Sections 292, 500 of the Indian Penal Code, Section 66 (e) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, in which the chargesheet is filed.
In a chargesheet submitted to Thane court, police said that Karmuse is 'not-cooperating' with the investigation.
The chargesheet mentions about the progress in the investigation and technical aspects pertaining to the case, including the past record.

In a related case, Awhad and 12 others, including three cops, were accused of kidnapping and physically assaulting at Awhad's residence. Karmuse had then sought the transfer of the case citing biased investigation favouring the MLA.
However, the high court had squashed a petition filed by Karmuse to transfer the other case to CBI.

The high court while squashing the petition of transfer observed, "..even court has declared the petitioner Karmuse as nota bonafide person who didn’t approach court with bonafide intention. This aspect is necessary to be considered to test the credentials of the petitioner Karmuse."
Aditya Mishra, lawyer for Karmuse said, "We have not received the copy of the chargesheet and have decided to appeal against the order of high court."
