Oil prices creep higher on robust global demand outlook
Oil prices inched higher in early trade on Wednesday as OPEC stuck to forecasts for robust global fuel demand growth, offsetting concerns of another U.S. Federal Reserve interest rate hike next week after consumer prices unexpectedly rose in August.
Asian shares extend global selloff amid bets on more aggressive Fed
Asian shares tumbled, the dollar held firm and the U.S. yield curve was deeply inverted on Wednesday, as a white-hot U.S. inflation report dashed hopes for a peak in inflation and fuelled bets that interest rates may have to be raised higher and for longer.
SGX Nifty signals a gap-down start
Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange traded 298 points, or 1.65 per cent, lower at 17,794, signaling that Dalal Street was headed for a gap-down start on Wednesday.
Tech View: Nifty50 takes out 18K, but strength missing
Nifty50 on Tuesday climbed for the fourth straight day and, in the process, took out the 18,000 level on a closing basis, the first time since April 4. The 50-pack index, which is trading above its key short and long-term averages, formed a small bullish candle on the daily chart, with wicks on both the sides, reflecting the indecisiveness among traders at high.
Tokyo shares slump on US inflation, Wall Street falls
Tokyo stocks sank at the open on Wednesday as investors shunned risk after fresh data that showed US inflation remains stubbornly high triggered Wall Street selloffs. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index dropped 2.80 percent, or 799.83 points, to 28,814.80 in early trade, while the broader Topix index fell 2.02 percent, or 40.22 points, at 1,946.35.

A broad sell-off sent U.S. stocks reeling on Tuesday after a hotter-than-expected inflation report dashed hopes that the Federal Reserve could relent and scale back its policy tightening in the coming months.

The rupee appreciated by 36 paise to close at over one-month high of 79.17 against the US dollar on Tuesday, tracking the dollar's decline versus its major peers and foreign fund inflows.
