PATNA: The Vaishali police arrested 14 criminals and recovered looted gold and silver ornaments and cash worth lakhs of rupees from their possession during a raid in Samastipur district on Monday. The arrested criminals had opened a shopt to sell the looted jewellery.
During the police investigation, it came to light that the robbers had looted 273 grams of gold, 27.3kg of silver and Rs 43,120 in cash cash from Shri Krishna Jewelers at Patepur Road in Mahua, Vaishali, on June 2 in broad daylight. After the incident, they opened their own jewellery shop in Samastipur to sell the looted items.
Vaishali SP Manish said the robbers opened up a shop in Samastipur about one-and-a-half months ago to sell the looted jewellery. "The conspiracy of this robbery was hatched in Samastipur by the main accused, Chandan Sonar. He was absconding in many cases, including bank robbery. Several recces were conducted in the month of May to carry out the robbery," he said.
Woman teacher found dead: Meanwhile, a 26-year-old woman teacher allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at her in-law's house in Muzaffarpur district. Police have recovered a 4-page suicide note from her room.
The victim was identified as Vandana alias Ginni. Her husband, Diwakar Mishra, works in Navy and he is a resident of Shankarpuri Lane, New Colony of Pandav Pokhar under Kazimohammadpur police station in Muzaffarpur. The family members said there was a fight between Vandana and her husband on Sunday night.
SHO of Kazimohammadpur police station Digambar Kumar said injury marks were found on the neck of the deceased. "The exact reason for death is yet to be ascertained. We are awaiting post-mortem report. A suicide note was recovered from the woman's room," he added.
