CHENNAI: The Monday wedding of a history sheeter in Mamallapuram appeared to be a high-profile event due to heavy police presence at the venue. At every nook and cranny of the wedding hall, police officers in plainclothes and uniforms could be seen.
The history sheeter Naresh Babu, 35, of Naduveerapattu, caught the attention of police as he stood on the dais holding a garland, grinning, and welcoming the guests who had come to his wedding.
After learning that a rival gang was preparing to kill the bridegroom who has numerous crime cases pending in the Somangalam police station limits and was waiting in disguise to eliminate him on the day of his wedding, Kancheepuram police dispatched a team of officers. Before guests entered the wedding hall, police frisked and checked them to make sure there was no bloodshed on the wedding dais.
According to police, Naresh Babu married a woman from Kodambakkam despite the fact that he had numerous criminal cases to his name in Tambaram commissionerate's Somangalam police station area. His wedding reception was scheduled at Leelavathi wedding hall in Sulerikadu on the East Coast Road.
After he was suspected of being engaged in a beheading case that occurred in the area last month, he received life threats from his rival gang. The police were informed of the opposing gang's plot to kill him. A posse of officers was deployed both inside and outside the wedding hall, screening each guest arriving for the wedding because it was possible for rowdy elements to enter the venue in plain sight. To see if anyone was hiding, the wedding hall's rooms and the presents the guests brought were also inspected.
In order to determine whether the vehicles entering the wedding hall and travelling down the ECR were transporting goons, a special police crew set up obstacles and examined them.
Police suggested that Naresh Babu wrap up the ceremony as soon as possible when he arrived at the hall in his Jaguar automobile at 7 pm in the evening. He ended the celebration, which included a gourmet dinner, by 10 pm out of fear of being attacked by his rival gangs. No suspicious incidents were detected at the wedding, according to police.
