NOIDA: Residents of the Sector 93B society, where a woman was abused and shoved by Shrikant Tyagi, have alleged that the a local cop has been pressuring them to remove their banners against illegal encroachments.
They said the station house officer of the Phase-2 police station is doing so at the behest of the Tyagi community.
When asked, the SHO insisted that the move was necessary to maintain peace and order. Members of the Tyagi community, on the other hand, said that they had only requested Noida police to get the banners removed.
Residents of the society said on Tuesday they will not remove the posters that they had put up on August 22, the day Tyagi mahapanchayat was held in the city in support of Shrikant Tyagi.
The mahapanchayat was called after Shrikant Tyagi's arrest. The Noida resident had been booked for molestation, criminal intimidation and other charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) , apart from the Gangsters Act for allegedly abusing and pushing a woman after she objected to plantation of trees by him and his aides in the common area of the Sector 93B society.
"We say no to harassment, insult of women, abusive language and encroachment," read some of the posters. "We have received several calls from the cops since Tuesday morning. They are pressuring us to remove these banners at the behest of Tyagi community leader Mange Ram," a resident of the society told TOI on Tuesday. "But we are not ready to do so because women residents on morning walks are increasingly becoming targets of harassment."
Some residents also said that on Monday, several people from the Tyagi community had visited Shrikant's Tyagi flat and they later took rounds of the entire society.
Mange Ram said, "On Monday, we asked the police officials to get the banners removed. These posters target the community."
When contacted, the SHO of Phase 2 police station said, "We have asked the residents to remove the banners to maintain law and order. Anyway, action has already been taken in this case."
