HYDERABAD: Two government school students died after a private school bus hit them at Ibrahimpatnam on Tuesday morning. The victims, children of migrant workers from Bihar, were on way to school when the accident occurred. Police booked a case of negligence against the bus driver.
Police said the accident occurred around 8.30am near Kavitha Rice Mill, close to Sheriguda in Ibrahimpatnam.
The victims - a 13-year-old girl and her eight-year-old nephew - were children of migrant workers employed at Kavitha Rice Mill. While parents of the girl work at the mill, the boy's parents are in Bihar.
Bus was taking U-turn, driver did not spot the two children
They sent him here to stay with relatives and attend school. Both victims studied at a government school in Sheriguda and used to walk from the mill to the school, which is less than a kilometre away.
On Tuesday, when the children were walking to their school, a bus of a private school in Ibrahimpatnam hit them. "While taking a U-turn, the bus hit the two, who were walking by the roadside. They suffered grievous injuries. After the incident, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled," R Saidulu, Ibrahimpatnam inspector, said. Later, the driver was taken into custody.
Police shifted the injured children to hospital. "The girl was declared brought dead and the boy succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment," Saidulu said.
Based on the complaint of the victim's family, police registered a case under Section 304-a (causing death due to rash or negligent act) of IPC against the bus driver, Bhashaiah. Police said the private school provided financial relief to the victim's family.
