Youth killed as tree falls on him

Belagavi: A youth was killed, while another was injured at Sangolli Rayanna Circle in the city on Tuesday when a century-old tree fell on them following incessant rainfall in the region. The deceased is Rakesh Suladhal, 26, resident of Siddanahalli in Belagavi taluk. The uprooted tree fell on the youths travelling on a bike.
Police rushed the injured youth to the hospital. The forest department personnel also rushed to the spot and removed the fallen tree from the road to ease the traffic.
After the incident, the negligence on the part of the forest officials in axing age-old trees is being criticised on social media.
It may be recalled that it’s the second death in the region due to heavy rainfall. On Monday, a woman had died in a wall collapse.
