The retail inflation in August rose to 7 per cent after falling for three consecutive months, as per the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation

The annual rate of inflation based on the All India Wholesale Price Index (WPI) number eased to 12.41 per cent in August from 13.93 per cent in July 2022, said the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday
The ministry said that the inflation in August was primarily contributed by the rise in prices of mineral oils, food articles, crude petroleum, basic metals, chemical products, electricity, food products etc.
The rate of inflation based on the WPI food index increased from 9.41 per cent in July 2022 to 9.93 per cent in August 2022.
In June, the final WPI and inflation rate for all commodities' stood at 155.4 and 16.23 per cent respectively.
Meanwhile, retail inflation in August rose to 7 per cent after falling for three consecutive months, as per the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The inflation print for July had come in at 6.71 per cent.
The rise in August's print is attributed to the spike in food prices. Food inflation in August 2022 came in at 7.62 per cent as against 6.75 per cent in July. The inflation rate for vegetables grew by 13.23 per cent in August.
