Pune: Woman, 65, found murdered at Warje residence

PUNE: A 65-year-old woman was found murdered in her house at Warje naka, off Karve road, late on Tuesday evening. Police suspect she was killed by robbers as her gold chain, gold earrings and some cash were missing and the cupboards had been searched.
The woman lives with her son and granddaughter in the house but was alone at the time of the murder. The woman had injury marks on her hands and neck. Police suspect she was attacked with a sharp weapon.
Deputy commissioner of police (Zone III) Pournima Gaikwad told TOI, "Her gold chain, gold earrings, and some cash were missing, and the assailant(s) searched the cupboards of her house. After studying the crime scene, we think it is a case of robbery."
Senior police inspector Shankar Khatake of Warje police said, "The elderly woman was alone in the house. Her neighbour saw her lying on the floor of her house when he went to switch on the water pump near her home. He spotted some injuries on her and raised an alarm around 6pm. He called up her son and other residents."
He said, "The woman, her son and granddaughter stay in a small independent house in the area. We have initiated a process to register a murder case."
Khatake said, "We went to the spot, moved her to a hospital and then shifted her to the Sassoon General Hospital. There were injury marks on her hands and neck. We suspect that she was assaulted with some sharp weapon. There was a scuffle between the elderly woman and the unidentified person(s). We also found a blade in the room."
