A 22-year-old woman was duped of Rs 8.2 lakh by a cyber fraudster claiming to be a surgeon from London wanting to send her a rakhi gift. The Dahisar police have lodged an FIR and are probing the case further. The complainant works as a sales executive with a private firm. On August 1, she received a follow request on Instagram from an unknown handle “doctor. kzamesjayden”. After she accepted the request they began to chat and shortly, shared her phone number. He would address her as ‘sister. ’ and told her he was going shopping and would purchase gifts for her for Raksha Bandhan. He told her, on August 14, that he had sent her a gift but she would have to pay customs charges.
