GUWAHATI: Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will be up against Left Front candidate Bhanulal Saha, who is a former minister, in the September 22 elections to the state’s lone Rajya
Sabha seat. The 51-year-old Deb submitted his nomination papers on Monday as the BJP nominee.He was accompanied by several BJP stalwarts including Chief Minister Manik Saha, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and Union minister Pratima Bhowmick.

Later, he told journalists he was nominated for the RS polls and appointed as the party observer of Haryana by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party’s top leadership. He said he would put in his best efforts to strengthen the party in the two states.
