KALABURAGI: Kalaburagi police are investigating the case pertaining to the smuggling of country-made pistols to Kalaburagi district from
Madhya Pradesh.
Once Kalaburagi district was shot to infamy because of a gangster who used to keep smuggled guns with him and give to his followers. Kalaburagi is facing such a threat again, espcially after eight country-made pistols were seized and as many persons were arrested for smuggling them.
Speaking to TOI, Kalaburagi SP Isha Pant said they are investigating the case and cannot reveal more information now. She said country-made pistols had been brought from Dhar and Bharwani districts in Madhya Pradesh.
The SP said she is in touch with Madhya Pradesh police, and doing their best in busting the network. “Such pistols are not produced at one particular place. They are spread out in Madhya Pradesh. We are still investigating the case in many angles — how many people may have bought these pistols, who they are, and from whom they sourced them. We have information that all these eight pistols are brought from Madhya Pradesh, and are sold in Rs 60,000-Rs 70,000 range,” she said.
Within a month, Kalaburagi police have arrested eight persons and seized eight pistols and 30 bullets. Working on the case, they are confident of seizing more pistols in the district.
Kalaburagi police have been appreciated by the locals, who are still fearing from those, if any, who may have bought the pistols.
Allaying their fears, Panth said people need not live in fear. “Country-made pistol racket will be bust soon,” she added.
