Complaint filed over construction at Calangute

Calangute: The Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) has claimed that an illegal construction is being carried out by a builder at Naikawaddo, Calangute.
Following the complaint by CCF last week, the Calangute panchayat has issued a notice to the builder and has scheduled a site inspection on Friday.
According to CCF, they received a complaint from the Society of Sisters of St Alex, Calangute, that a builder is carrying out a construction by undertaking hill-cutting at Naikawaddo in violation of the laws and beyond permissible limits.
The institute had lodged the complaint with the authorities concerned in June, but after no action was taken, they approached CCF.
Following this, CCF last week lodged a complaint with the panchayat in public interest “to protect the village environment”.
CCF said it appears that hill-cutting at the construction site is in violation of the Environment Protection Act, 1986 and asked the panchayat to verify the facts.
