Panel: Make bio weapons part of security plan

NEW DELHI: The government must be on the alert mode to meet any eventualities of biological and chemical weapons/warfare, besides combating the challenges posed by the outbreak of any endemic or pandemic, a parliamentary committee has said .
In its report, which was submitted to Rajya Sabha on Monday, the panel headed by SP’s Ram Gopal Yadav, has recommended institution of an oversight body that should not only have linkages with clinical operational and research institutes but integrated coordination with national decision-making bodies like Niti Aayog besides PMO and cabinet secretariat. “…government needs to incorporate the component of biological/chemical deterrence in national security strategy,” it said.
