Mumbai rains: IMD issues orange alert for September 15

MUMBAI: The IMD has indicated that the city must brace for more heavy rain days ahead with an orange alert being issued.
An orange alert by IMD indicates heavy to very heavy rainfall being very likely.
A scientist at IMD's Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai said that while an orange alert has been issued as weather models do indicate an increase in rain activity on Thursday but then they are closely monitoring the situation.
"As on Tuesday, a well marked low pressure area over central parts of Madhya Pradesh persists. It is likely to move nearly northwestwards across Madhya Pradesh during next 24 hours. Therefore, we have issued an orange alert for Thursday. However, the alert will be reviewed again on Wednesday," said the official.

Meanwhile, the total stocks in the seven lakes which supply water to the city, surpassed 99% of the requirement on Tuesday. The total water stocks stood at 14.37 lakh million litres on Tuesday morning.
To fill the seven lakes to 100% capacity, the total water stocks need to touch 14.47 lakh million litres.
