DEHRADUN: A team of Dehradun’s Cantonment police station reached “Instagram influencer” Bobby Kataria’s home in Gurugram's Bassi village on Monday and pasted the property attachment notice, issued by Dehradun's local court, as per the legal procedure.
The action has been taken in connection with the case relating to Kataria blocking the busy Dehradun-Mussoorie road and pouring himself a drink in public.
Inspector Rajendra Singh Rawat, station officer of Cantonment police station told TOI, “The team left for Delhi on Saturday night after a local court issued a warrant to attach his property in the case. After completing some official work in Delhi on Sunday, the team reached his home in Gurugram on Monday and pasted the property attachment office. However, he was not found at his home this time as well. The police team will return to Dehradun by Monday night.”
Rawat added that the police team enquired about his whereabouts from his family members present at home but to no avail.
“His parents, wife and son were present at home when the police team reached there but they claimed to have no idea about his whereabouts. The team was also told that Kataria has a strained relationship with his wife and he comes home only once in two or three months. However, the notice gives him one month to present himself before the police. If he fails, we will attach his movable and immovable properties,” he added.
Another police officer privy to the case told TOI that Kataria's counsel is planning to approach Nainital high court for interim bail in the case to evade police arrest.
“His previous interim bail application was rejected by the local court in Dehradun about a week ago. Police are keeping a strict vigil to arrest him and bring him to justice,” the officer said.
Police have visited his home thrice in connection with the case but Kataria was never found there. Therefore, the court was approached to initiate the process of attaching his property.
Following its probe into the case, police had revealed that Kataria came to Dehradun on July 23 with a friend.
On July 28, he uploaded a video to his verified Instagram account with over six lakh followers. In the video, he could purportedly be seen sitting on a chair in the middle of the Dehradun-Mussoorie road and pouring himself a drink. The video had a background song -- Sadkein Apne Baap Ki (roads belong to my father).
The video, which soon went viral, was condemned by state residents who accused outsiders of sullying the culture of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. Later, on August 10, DGP Ashok Kumar ordered a probe into the incident.
Subsequently, a case was registered against Kataria at the Cantonment police station on August 11.
