Gurgaon: A total of 41 students of the state government’s ‘Super-100’ programme have cracked the JEE Advanced exams, the results of which were announced on Sunday.
The programme, under which coaching for competitive exams was provided free of cost to 200 meritorious students of government schools this year, is run by the state secondary education department. They said the results are a “badge of honor” for the state government, as the programme has been able to increase the share of government school students clearing one of toughest entrance exams in the country. Last year, about 26 out of 100 students who had enrolled in the programme had cleared the exams.
“Seeing the immense demand, more students wanted to enroll and we increased the seat count from 100 to 200. Out of these 200 students, 101 had qualified for JEE Advanced, and 41 cracked it and made it to IITs,” said a senior education department official.
The highest scorer among these is Kaithal-based Nakul Singh (18). Nakul, who will be pursuing mechanical engineering from IIT Delhi, secured an all India rank of 270. His father owns a small shop in Kaithal. “When this programme came up and I saw my seniors making it to IITs, I knew this is the only way in which I can turn around the destiny of my family,” said Nakul.
