Gurgaon: A 26-year-old woman from Patna died by suicide after hanging herself from the ceiling of her room on Sunday in Badshapur area.
The father of the woman has alleged that her husband and parents-in-law were torturing her over dowry.
Nisha got married to one Harish Ranjan in February 2020 to a Patna-based man. However, three months ago, her husband left her and came to Gurgaon, saying that he will only live with her if she gets more dowry from her parents.
“I had given sufficient dowry so that my daughter doesn’t have to face any trouble. But even that became less. In the last two years, she would come home crying now and then, alleging that her husband and parents-in-law are mentally harassing her over dowry," as the woman's father Ranjan Singh told police.
Singh further told police that on September 7, his son Manish brought Nisha to Gurgaon so that she could mend her relationship with her husband. However, on Sunday Manish told his father that Nisha had died by suicide at her husband's rented apartment in Sector 70.
Based on the complaint, the accused have been booked under IPC sections 304 B (dowry death) and 34 (common intention).
