MUMBAI: The city woke up to heavy rain activity on Tuesday morning as rainfall recorded in the 24 hours ending 8.30am was seen nearing the three digit mark. The rainfall recorded between September 12-13 by the IMD Santacruz observatory was 93.4mm. In comparison the IMD Colaba observatory recorded lesser rains of 59.2mm in the same period.
The IMD in its five-day forecast for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar had already indicated heavy rain activity at isolated places being very likely. A yellow alert by the weather bureau indicating the same had already been issued.
Mahesh Palawat, vice-president meteorology and climate change at Skymet Weather in a tweet said that while the IMD Santacruz observatory recorded 93mm heavy rain during last 24 hours however due to short breaks in between severe waterlogging has not been witnessed. “Heavy intermittent rain to continue until 16. Peak intensity on September 15,” he tweeted.
KS Hosalikar, scientist IMD also took to Twitter where he pointed that active monsoon conditions were being observed. “Moderate to intense rainfall possible over parts of central India including Maharashtra,” he said.
Meanwhile, water stocks in the seven lakes supplying to the city reached 99 per cent of the total requirement.
