Kanpur: In a bizarre incident, the Kanpur traffic police issued an e-challan for not wearing a helmet to a person driving a car. Police had challaned the car of Sushil Sharma, a resident of Azad Nagar under Nawabganj police station near Khalasi Line area of the city on June 28. When Sharma came to know about the message on his mobile phone, he was shocked to see the reason behind the challan. In it (challan), the photo and the number of the vehicle were of his car, but the offence was of driving a two-wheeler without helmet. "A fine of Rs 1,000 was slapped on him by the traffic police," he said. When the matter was brought to the knowledge of senior officials, they assured him of rectification. "The police will cancel a challan if it is issued wrongly. There is a possibility of error while feeding the details in the software," said ADCP traffic Manoj Kumar Pandey. Sources meanwhile said that the senior officials of the traffic police department received several complaints with regard to issuance of wrong challans. tnn
