THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Lawyers and police clashed at Kollam district court campus on Monday. An additional sub-inspector has been injured in the clash and he has been admitted to Kollam district hospital.
However, the lawyers have decided to boycott the court proceedings until action is taken against the police officers involved in the attack against them. The bar association of Kollam has issued a statement that they would not attend the court proceedings from Tuesday.
They said that one of their colleagues was manhandled by the police and hence action should be taken against them. The district bar association has given a complaint to the chief minister and the director general of police seeking action against the police.
According to the police, the incident happened when the police had taken an advocate into custody following a road accident. The advocates alleged that police had assaulted the lawyer while he was taken into custody.
The advocates were protesting against the custodial torture in the Kollam district court and they had heated argument with the police officers present there.
The police said the windshield of a police jeep was destroyed by the lawyers.
