Thiruvananthapuram: Major traffic snarls were reported from different parts of the city as scores of people accompanied the Bharat Jodo Yatra of Congress leader and MP
Rahul Gandhi on Monday morning.
It was virtually a show of strength by the KPCC by parading hundreds of people to accompany Gandhi from Nemom to Pattom.
The yatra passed through the MG Road covering places like the Secretariat and Martyr’s Column, where people had gathered in large numbers to witness the yatra.
However, when the yatra started from Vellayani Junction in the morning, it led to a total traffic chaos on the busy Karamana-Neyyattinkara Road for hours.
Though it is a four-lane traffic, the police tried to divert traffic of both sides through one road. This led to a total chaos and vehicles got stuck for hours during the busy morning hours.
This was the situation when the yatra reached the MG Road as huge line of vehicles could be seen on one side of the road as people had gathered to see a glimpse of Gandhi and his yatra.
Most of the people were trying to take photos on their mobile of the yatra by parking their vehicles on the side of the road which led to another chaos. The vehicles coming from Thampanoor to Palayam were diverted and were not allowed to take the MG Road.
The party workers had gathered all along the roads for showering petals and for seeing Gandhi all along the MG Road. This had also created trouble for the police.
The 150-day yatra had been launched from Kanyakumari on March 7.
