AJMER: Two Rajasthan ministers said to be close to CM Ashok Gehlot faced protests during a Gujjar mahapanchayat at Pushkar on Monday even as PCC vice-president Rajendra Chaudhary said the people of the state wanted to see former deputy CM Sachin Pilot as the chief minister.
Chaudhary claimed the people had voted for the Congress in the 2018 assembly elections to see Pilot as CM. They felt cheated when he was denied the post and “gave a befitting reply to the party” in the 2019 parliamentary elections as it could not win a single seat, he told journalists.
Slogans hailing Pilot were raised at the Gujjar maha panchayat, which was held to immerse the ashes of late Kirori Singh Bainsla, who had spearheaded the Gujjar quota agitation. Shoes and empty water bottles were tossed at sports and youth affairs minister Ashok Chandna while industries minister Shakuntla Rawat was booed when they came on stage to address the gathering. Senior Gujjar leaders had to appeal to the protesting members to maintain peace, telling them programme was apolitical.
