THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM for the first time has come out officially against the Bharat Jodo Yatra of
Rahul Gandhi. Even though BJP has been taking on the yatra very sarcastically, CPM had not openly commented on the yatra ever since it commenced.
However, on Monday, the official Twitter handle of CPM, posted a caricature of Gandhi and slammed his yatra saying "18 days in Kerala and 2 days in UP".
It went on to say that it was a "strange way to fight BJP-RSS". The caricature of Gandhi had a title saying, "Bharat Jodo or Seat Jodo".
However, Jairam Ramesh, the national coordinator of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, came out against this tweet of CPM. In a tweet, Ramesh said, "Do your homework better on how and why yatra was planned the way it is. And silly criticism from a party that is the A team of BJP in the land of MunduModi".
Though no senior CPM leaders in the state had come out flaying the yatra so far, a few young leaders have chosen the social media to criticize Gandhi and his yatra.
CPM state secretariat member M Swaraj flayed on social media about the route the Bharat Jodo Yatra takes. "The route of the yatra has been carefully selected such that it does not pass through any of the BJP-ruled states. It goes through 12 states, of which BJP has no roots in seven states," he said.
"I feel that this container yatra will make Congress vanish from the country," Swaraj said.
Senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan came out strongly against Swaraj. Muraleedharan said that BJP was worried over the massive response the Bharat Jodo Yatra is getting. "Now, CPM has also started worrying over the response it is getting. Hence, CPM is playing second fiddle to BJP in criticizing the yatra, he added.
