NEW DELHI: In a marked break from the traditional restraint in the face of attack from political parties, the RSS on Monday reacted angrily to Congress posting a picture on Twitter showing Sangh's uniform — Khaki shorts — on fire.
Soft-spoken senior RSS functionary and its joint general secretary Manmohan Vaidya used "unusually strong words", saying even “fathers and grandfathers” (baap-daada) of Congress tried to stop RSS but they could not stop it and the Sangh continued to grow.
“Is it that they want to connect the nation through hatred?” Vaidya questioned, and asserted that Congress's earlier generations too harboured hatred and contempt for the Sangh.
Congress on Monday tweeted a picture of a burning pair of khaki shorts, a part of the RSS uniform earlier, saying the “Bharat Jodo Yatra” was being undertaken "to free the country from the shackles of hate and undo the damage done by BJP-RSS”.
Addressing a press conference after the conclusion of the three-day coordination meeting of the outfit in Raipur, Vaidya claimed there was "growing support" for RSS in society.
”They (Congress) want to connect people through hatred. Can you unite India through hatred? They have harboured hatred and contempt for us for a long time. Their earlier generations (baap-dada) too tried to stop RSS but we kept growing as we were supported by the people," he said.
On a query on Rahul’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, Vaidya said, “It is always better to work for the unity of this country, but the means is always crucial. Is it being done through ‘tiraskar’ (hatred) or ‘prem’ (or love)? The elements needed to unite the nation must be identified first and only then efforts should be made.”
