Guwahati: Several students of a Guwahati-based coaching institute run by a vlogger arrested for alleging a cash-for-jobs hustle on the sidelines of the state government's recent recruitment drive were Sunday interrogated by police amid a strong rebuttal from CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who termed the controversy the handiwork of "a few frustrated political parties".
Victor Das, whose students are among the lakhs of job aspirants who wrote exams for recruitment to around 30,000 grade III and IV posts, had been arrested two days ago on charges of spreading rumours questioning the sanctity of the hiring process.
Amlanjyoti Dutta, one of those whose statements were recorded by the police, said a few of his fellow students told him that they had been contacted by "brokers" with offers of jobs in return for cash. "I have submitted all the details, including the phone numbers of such brokers and screenshots of their conversations with the candidates, to the police."
