Shringar Gauri verdict today, curbs in place in Varanasi

VARANASI: Prohibitory orders under CrPC Section 144 have been imposed in Varanasi district of UP ahead of Monday verdict by the district judge on the maintainability of the suit, seeking worshiping right at Shringar Gauri and other deities in Gyanvapi mosque compound, filed by five women plaintiffs.
Talking to reporters, Varanasi commissioner of police (CP) A Satish Ganesh said that a meeting of police officers was organized on Sunday to finalise a foolproof security plan for the judgement day. The meeting was attended by additional commissioners of police as well as in-charges of different police stations, he said, adding that “police and paramilitary forces will be deployed in and around areas having mixed population”.
Claiming that patrolling vehicles will be positioned at strategic points, the CP said quick reaction teams have been formed to act in case of any eventuality. Following the directive of the Supreme Court to decide the maintainability of the case, the district judge had started hearings on May 20. With final submissions by Anjuman Intezamia Masjid — the mosque management committee — and advocates of the five women plaintiffs on August 24, district judge Ajay Krishna Vishvesha had fixed September 12 as the date to deliver the decision on maintainability of the case.
