Woman ‘gang-raped’ and killed in Assam’s Karimganj, 1 held

Silchar: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped and killed in a village in Karimganj district’s Patharkandi block, sparking massive protests by locals on Sunday. One person has been arrested in this connection and several others detained.
He has been identified by police as Libu Sinha, the main accused, from neighbouring Jamirwala village with whom the deceased reportedly had an affair.
Police said, “The woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a paddy field. Her body and face bore multiple injury marks.” The woman, who hailed from Kachubari village, used to work at a sweet shop. Like always, she had gone to the shop on Saturday and returned home in the afternoon.
