Belagavi/ Dharwad: Personal rivalry between college students ended in a murder late on Saturday night at Mugalihal village of Yaragatti taluk during the immersion procession of Ganesh idols.
The victim is Arjungouda Patil, 21 of the same village. Police have arrested four students, including a minor, within two hours of the incident. According to reliable sources, an affair with a girl is the reason behind the incident.
The victim was stabbed by the accused on the right side of his chest, during the end of the procession. He was rushed to hospital but he did not survive.
The arrested accused are Uday Bandrolli, 21, Subhash Solannavar, 21, Vitthal Meeshi, 20 and a minor. Police have recovered a knife from the incident spot. Belagavi district superintendent of police (SP) Sanjeev Patil said a more detailed investigation is underway.
Youngster stabbed during Ganesha processionA youth was stabbed by three unidentified persons, during the Ganesha idol immersion procession at Anjaneya Nagar near Kelgeri, late in the night on Saturday. The victim is Prajwal Jadav of Kelgeri. Police said that the reason behind the stabbing is personal enmity. Three persons stabbed the youth on his face, and the victim is undergoing treatment at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubballi. A manhunt has been launched to nab the assailants. A case has been registered at the Sub-urban police station.
