Haveri: The Indian Army has been conducting recruitment rallies under the Agnipath scheme in Haveri for the last 10 days. More than 58,000 aspirants have applied to join the army, while about 3,000 aspirants have been attending the physical tests every day at Hosamani Siddappa District Stadium in the city.
Seva Bharati Trust, a wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, has been serving breakfast to the aspirants free of cost.
The trust started serving breakfast of the first day of the rally and at least 2,500 candidates could benefit. Even some serving army officers too had breakfast here. Both the candidates and army officials have appreciated Seva Bharati’s initiative.
The Haveri Rotary Club and Dalit Sangharsh Samiti also served breakfast to the candidates on one day recently.
“We did not get any food inside the stadium after we qualified in running, but we got relief as Seva Bharati Trust is serving breakfast to everyone. It helped us a lot,” shared an army aspirant from Vijayapura.
An RSS worker said, “Different types of breakfast has been coming from Adamya Chetan Foundation, Hubballi and we are paying them a concessional price. We are contributing money ourselves and also collect donations from selected persons. We have been providing pulav, bisibele bath, pongal, and others.”
“Most aspirants who have been attending the army recruitment drive here are from far of places. They are not getting quality food even if they can pay. With the help of local donors and local MLA Nehru Olekar, we are serving breakfast,” said Dr Shivanand Kembavi, a trust pramukh.
BJP leaders, workers, and volunteers have extended help in providing breakfast to the aspirants, said BJP district president Siddaraj Kalkoti.
MLA Nehru Olekar said many aspirants are not getting quality food in hotels because every day 2,500 to 3,000 candidates are attending the drive. “We are providing sufficient food to them. It’s our pride to serve our future soldiers who will protect our nation’s border,” he added.
