NEW DELHI: The city recorded a slight rise in daytime temperature even as the weather department expects no major or high intensity rain for the next few days apart from drizzle at some isolated areas.
High humidity and daytime temperature increased the discomfort on Sunday afternoon.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), at Safdarjung, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37.1 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season’s average, against 36.8 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The minimum temperature on Sunday was 26.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season’s average, against 27.6 degrees Celsius a day earlier.
The humidity at Safdarjung oscillated between a maximum of 85% and minimum of 59%.
According to the weather analysts, the maximum and minimum temperatures on Monday may hover around 35 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively. The weather department also expects the city to receive rain on Wednesday when the maximum temperature may drop to 31 degrees Celsius.
“The city is likely to remain generally clouded on Monday with a possibility of light to very light rain at one or two places,” said an official from IMD.
Meanwhile, the air quality of the city improved to satisfactory. On Sunday, the Air Quality Index (AQI), on a scale of 0 to 500, was recorded at 85 against 110 a day earlier.
“AQI today indicates ‘satisfactory’ air quality. Dust (size greater than 2.5 micrometres) contributes about 54% to PM10. For the next three days, the peak wind speed is likely to be 12-24 km/h, causing moderate dispersion and the AQI is likely to be within ‘satisfactory’ or the ‘lower end of moderate’ due to relatively dry atmospheric conditions. Moderate temperature (31-36 degrees Celsius) and mixing layer height (1.5-2 km) maintains moderate ventilation,” stated SAFAR.
