KALYAN: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union minister Anurag Thakur on Monday expressed displeasure over the work being done under the Smart City mission in Kalyan-Dombivli in Maharashtra's Thane district.
Thakur, who is on a three day visit to Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency to strengthen it's party, held a meeting along with Maharashtra PWD minister Ravindra Chavan, BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) commissioner Dr Bhausahed Dangade and other senior officials at KDMC headquarter.
However, while KDMC officials were giving presentation about several projects undergoing in the twin cities, Thakur showed his displeasure over bad condition of roads and other Smart City related projects.
Thakur told officials, "The condition of roads in the city is very bad. It gives bad impression to those who come to city. I am shocked to hear that Kalyan-Dombivli is a part of Smart City mission. If we look at the other cities included in Smart City mission, then there are much better infrastructure projects, good roads, cleanliness and beautification across the city. In other Smart Cities, people from there themselves come forward with official and join the cleanliness campaign, but here I am not seeing anything like this."
Thakur also said, "I am really surprised knowing that this city is included in Smart city."
Meanwhile, Kalyan zone DCP Sachin Gunjal told Thakur that the crime detection increased upto 80 percent due to CCTVs installed across twin city under Smart City.
Kalyan-Dombivli is number one in crime detection in the district for the past few months.
Earlier, the detection rate was 65 percent, Gunjan said, adding, "CCTV helped in reaching detection rate upto 80 percent due to CCTV. Not only this, it also helps in court to prove accused involvement in case."
Kalyan-Dombivli is part of Smart cities under Central government funding for several projects and many of projects are either proposed or started by the KDMC, but most of them are still incomplete.
Even KDMC roads are in bad shape due to rain. KDMC had claimed to fill potholes ahead of Ganesha immersion but most of roads are filled with potholes making public inconvenience to travel.
