Belagavi: Seven bridges are under water because of incessant rainfall for the past two days and swelling of rivers in the district.
The Akkol-Sidnal, Kunnur-Bhojwadi, Kunnur-Barwad and Jatrat-Bhivashi bridges in Nippani taluk were submerged on Sunday morning. The Kochari and Yarnal bridges in Hukkari taluk, and Shingalapur bridge in Gokak taluk are also under water.
The police have deployed personnel on both sides of the submerged bridges to prevent people from trying to step on the structures.
The police have made alternative arrangements for traffic movement.
The rain has also claimed a life. Gangavva Mulimani, a 55-year-old resident of Hulikatti in Savadatti taluk, died under a collapsed wall in the wee hours of Sunday. She was asleep when the wall caved in on her.
The body of a youth, who is suspected to have been washed away a couple of days in a stream in Kolavi village in Gokak, was found near Benachanamaradi on Sunday.
The villages in the downline of Hidkal Dam face the threat of flooding as the dam is full and 23,000 cusecs water are being released from the dam.
The meteorological department has forecast rain for the next four days in the district and there is a chance of an increase in the outflow of water from dams.
The Hidkal dam authority has alerted villages in the downline to move to safer places along with their livestock.
