Jaipur: A 23-year-old man was arrested by railway police on Sunday from Kota on charge of raping a 35-year-old woman next to the railway tracks near Jaipur railway station last month.
SP, railway police, Pradeep Mohan Sharma said the accused, identified as Vicky alias Balveer Thakur, was arrested from Kota. Thakur is a habitual offender with four cases of theft lodged against him at GRP Kota and one in Jaipur, said Sharma.
The woman had alleged in her complaint at Government Railway Police (GRP) station in Jaipur on August 25 that she was abducted by some unidentified men when she ventured out of the railway station to buy food for her husband and that one of them raped her.
While an FIR was registered under Section 376D (gangrape), an investigation revealed that Vicky was the only accused involved in the rape. GRP also claimed that the woman’s statement before the court also did not indicate gang rape.
“It was dark and there were a lot of people near the railway station when the accused was whisking her away. She was under the impression that other men were also involved in the crime,” Sharma said.
“We examined the footage of over 100 CCTV cameras around the railway station and spotted the accused whisking away the woman from the railway station. The crime spot was examined by an FSL team. A special investigation team (SIT) was formed, and it was sent to Gangapur City in Sawai Madhopur, and Kota district to identify the accused,” said Sharma.
The accused, who claimed to be working as a scrap dealer, had lost his parents when he was a child, added Sharma.
