Kanpur: Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Kartik both are good for the number five position in the Indian team but Hardik, after playing a few balls, could take away the match from any one, opined Stuart Binny in the post-match conference held here on Saturday night.
Stuart, who was adjudged as man of the match, said he himself prefers to play at the number five position. "I am not a cut and pull batsman. I feel pleasure in batting in my zone and I enjoyed batting today”, he said and added “It was a good time when we, the team members, met after a long time in the dressing room”.
The members had practised together for two days but he was practising for this series since a fortnight ago. And that was the reason he was middling the ball beautifully. "I got time to play in this match and I first preferred to build my innings and thereafter by opening the face of the bat against all those deliveries which fell in my zone", Stuart said.
The captain's plan was simple and played comfortably. 161 runs would be good enough to try to achieve that score first and we achieved that, Stuart said. For Kanpur, Green Park was lucky for him in the previous match which was against South Africa. And it again proved lucky on September 10, he said.
Proteas Captain Jonty Rhodes in the post-match conference stated that facilities at all the test centres in India had been improved and it was good for cricket. In reply to a question about collapse of the middle order, Rhodes said Indian spinners moved the ball a little and dropped at right spot and forced the batsmen to commit errors.
He opined that India had a good strength of cricketers and the players need opportunity and confidence in them. Leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi and Deepak Hudda are upcoming players. Bishnoi had flatter and leg spin in his armoury while Hudda could bat at any number.
Replying to a question that a pool of 30 to 40 players was backfiring Indian cricket, Jonty said the pool of 40 players was a good sign. But they need attention and opportunities.
Moreover, in T-20 each player must know what his role was and he should be ready to play that. That would make a team strong.
