Coimbatore:
BJP urged the state government to conduct a census of denotified tribes (DNT) in the state. At the state executive committee meeting of BJP’s OBC wing held in Pollachi on Sunday, the party blamed the DMK government for allegedly delaying the census, though several states have started it. A resolution passed at the meeting said that the Union ministry of social justice and empowerment had announced that a census should be conducted to chalk out programmes for socio – economic and educational development of denotified tribes.
BJP also demanded that instead of mentioning ‘denotified community’, the state government should refer them as ‘denotified tribes’, in the community certificate.TNN
