Sarpanch, aides booked for murder bid

Ludhiana: Jamalpur police booked sarpanch of Bhookhri village, a Panchyat member and their accomplices for attempt to murder, rioting and other charges on Saturday.
An FIR has been lodged on the complaint of Jagjeet Singh, 55, a mason against the accused, Harmanjot Singh, Panchayat member Boota Singh, his brother Lucky and Kamal of the same village besides some unidentified accomplices.
The complainant, Jagjeet Singh alleged that he had gone to a liquor vend at Dhanasu village with his friend, Raju at around 8:45pm. He said village sarpanch Harmanjot and panchayat member Boota were consuming liquor at the vend and created a nuisance in an inebriated condition. The complainant said that when he objected to this, they beat him up. He said that the accused removed his turban and left in their SUV.
Jagjeet said that on reaching home, he called his two sons and asked them to come to the village. Later, when he went to the bus stop with his daughter to receive them, he said the accused turned up there with their accomplices and attacked him and his daughter. The complainant said his friend’s sons Prabhot Singh and Ramandeep Singh came to his help but the accused hit their motorcycle with their SUV with the intention of killing them. A case has been registered. tnn
