Days after industrialist Cyrus Mistry and a family friend were killed in a car accident on NH-48 in Palghar district, National Highway Authority of India’s project director for the highway Suraj Singh on Sunday ruled out any design fault in the highway. He said the accident occurred because the car was speeding.
The Palghar Police said on Thursday that Dr Anahita Pandole, who was at the wheel, had applied brakes five seconds prior to the accident. According to the NHAI project director, maybe she could not manoeuvre the turn on NH-48 where the three-lane road merged into a two-lane bridge. Dr Pandole, who is undergoing treatment at the HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, is reportedly stable and under observation in the ICU.

The 67-year-old rebel Shiv Sena leader Sada Sarvankar, who was booked by the Dadar police for allegedly firing from his licensed firearm during a clash between workers of the Uddhav Thackeray-headed Sena and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Sena early on Sunday, is a three-term MLA from Mumbai’s Mahim constituency, which is considered to be the Uddhav Sena’s stronghold.

The Cabinet approved Rs 1498.61 crore revised administrative approval for Upper Godavari project in district Nashik. The project will help irrigate 74,000 hectares of agriculturural land in Nashik and Aurangabad districts. It will also address drinking water problems in tribal belt of Nashik district.

A school bus carrying students caught fire in Kharghar area of neighbouring Navi Mumbai township on Monday, officials said. There was no report of any injury, they said.
The incident took place around 11.30 am in Sector No. 15 of Kharghar, a fire official said. Four students of a school, a staffer and driver were present in the vehicle when it caught fire, he said. (PTI)

Priyanka Shelar, who worked as a domestic worker in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai, died by suicide at her employer's home in 2015 just over a month after her marriage to Prashant Shelar. The court said it was not clear why Priyanka had taken the extreme step. Read more

Over 48,000 taxi drivers and two lakh autorickshaw drivers in Mumbai will go on an indefinite strike from September 15, Thursday, seeking a hike in fares, the drivers' union said.
The union has sought the hike following a 25 per cent increase in CNG prices which has resulted in huge losses to taxi and auto drivers, it said. The minimum taxi fare was last revised in March 2021 to Rs 25.
The BMC has asked ferry operators to not navigate around the Gateway of India for seven days after the Ganesh festival's conclusion, and notified that the jetty there will remain closed.
After Ganesh immersion on September 9 and 10, BMC took up cleaning of the jetty area and waters at Gateway of India, including idols, wooden planks, and flowers/garlands/cloth material from the sea.
A senior civic official from the A ward said, "From Monday, we will begin cleaning the waters and the promenade. We have informed the ferry runners to steer clear for seven days. It will take fewer days to clean up and clear the waters, but for safety of passengers and the ferry, we have intimated a shut-down for seven days. Once it is cleared, ferries will be intimated to start services."

A pregnant tribal woman was carried in a makeshift stretcher due to lack of proper road in a village in Maharashtra’s Palghar district and she delivered a baby midway in a dense and dark forest, officials said on Monday.
