Jaipur: An unknown person claiming to be from Sampat Nehra gang called up a businessman dealing with tiles in Churu on August 30 and demanded Rs 20 lakh or threatened dire consequences.
The businessman lodged an FIR on the intervention of the DSP on Friday evening. Police on Saturday stated that three persons are responsible for intimidating the businessman and asking for ransom and they have vital clues on their whereabouts.
According to the police, the businessman identified as Subash Saini had approached Digant Anand, SP, Churu.
“He stated that on August 30 a person who claimed to be part of Sampat Nehra gang called him and asked him to pay Rs 2 lakh as ransom or get ready to face dire consequences. After some days, he received another call in which the caller asked that since he was not cooperating he will now have to pay Rs 10 lakh and finally when callers raised the ransom money to Rs 20 lakh, he came and informed me about it,” said Anand while talking to TOI.
The callers have also sent him WhatsApp message with a threat that either he should pay the ransom or he would meet the fate of Sidhu Moose Wala, Punjabi pop singer. “We have identified some of the numbers and have got clues on the whereabouts of the accused. Our teams are working on certain leads and we will surely crack the case,” he added.
According to police, the businessman was so intimidated that he had covered his face when he had approached Churu SP on Friday evening. In the investigation, it was also found that the victim has some money dispute with some people. “Be it a money dispute or anything we have registered a case under appropriate sections of IPC for criminal intimidation and asking for ransom against unknown persons at Kotwali police station,” said an officer tnn
