Coimbatore: Man held for impregnating 16-year-old neighbour

COIMBATORE: The Perur all women police arrested a 36-year-old man on Saturday for raping and impregnating his 16-year-old neighbour. The arrested person was a daily wager. “After his wife left for her mother’s house for delivery, he befriended the minor girl and raped her several times in his residence. Her parents took her to a government hospital after she complained of stomach ache. Doctors who checked the girl declared that she was pregnant and was about to deliver a baby within one or two days,” a police officer said. The girl delivered a baby boy on September 6. Based on her statement, police registered a case against the neighbour under Section 5(l) read with 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. He was remanded in judicial custody. TNN
